I began to notice various cityscapes in my travels as an executive, and wondered how best to capture them in oils. The style had to be loose, what I called “controlled chaos.” Trying to use a realistic approach would be time-consuming and less impactful. I decided on a less subtle approach, and the results are how I originally imagined them.
Jon Paul Price is originally from Matador, Texas, and currently resides in Colorado. His background includes work as a surgical practitioner and educator, and nonprofit healthcare executive director. His earlier works are paintings created in the 16th-century Flemish style and sculptures inspired by “retro-futuristic” Victorian-era fictional steam-powered machines operated by a common post-apocalyptic figure. Currently, he creates cityscapes and the people occupying them in a “controlled chaos” style.
