"In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks."
John Muir

"If you need inspiration, just take a walk or a drive. Take your time and keep your eyes open. It's everywhere!" Sam Cook

Artist Statement: I absolutely love oil painting and photography. Fortunately, they are closely related. My better photographs provide the incentive for me to paint something hopefully even more beautiful. The beauty in nature, and particularly in sunsets, and mountains, oceans, streams, trees, flowers, animals and people, is Everywhere! So, I have no shortage of reference material when it's time for another painting! In addition to my artwork and photography, I also love to play golf, work with wood, including larger home projects and in creating unique frames for paintings.

Artist Biography: I have always enjoyed drawing, but it wasn't until after college that I first began drawing with pen and ink to create frame-worthy art. Those were my early years in the Army whenever I could find time. I have had little formal training in art except for a couple of art history classes in college and a few painting classes in California. I did read many "How To…" books in the "old" days and now I watch a LOT of "YouTube" tutorials. I do have a web site ( that includes a lot of my work. Unfortunately, the image quality on many of my older paintings is not great since those images were made from scans of old snapshots. And Lots of paintings got away from me with no record at all. Nevertheless, the website images will give the viewer an idea of my interests and a sense of the quality of my work.

Family: My wife Karen is an incredible watercolor painter, and she helps me greatly as she critiques my works in progress. When we're on vacation, both of us like to collect reference material along the way and visit every art gallery we can. We have two married sons (a Software Developer and an Architect), two wonderful daughter-in-law and two grandkids, who are also working very hard on their artistic skills! .Also, three awesome Granddogs.
